VOD 2 Live is used because the source is a recorded file, but the experience and timing are controlled like a live publish window.

You upload the intended file(s), select them in a scheduled playlist event, and then route that scheduled playout to your Stream Targets so platforms publish the content within the defined time window.

Step-by-step

1) Create the TV Station service

In MediaCP, use the service creation wizard to create a new MediaCP Video TV Station service.

1. Login as administrator or reseller account.
2. Navigate to the Services tab on left navigation bar.
3. Select Create a New Server.
4. Use the service creation wizard to set the intended customer.
5. Select MediaCP Video.
6. Set the service name and set the Service Type to TV Station.
7. Set the other configuration as preferred and select Create Service.

2) Schedule → Default Playlist (empty)

1. On the newly created service select the TV Schedule tab.
2. Select the Manage Default Playlist button.
3. Remove all files from the default playlist.

This prevents the station from continuously playing a loop of default videos. The station output is then only live during scheduled events or when a live encoder connects.

3) Upload the intended file(s)

Using the Media tab, upload the recorded file(s you want viewers and platforms to receive.

4) Schedule the playlist event

Use the schedule calendar to create a Scheduled Playlist event:

1. Set the event time and date to the decided publish time.
2. Select the colour, loop and overrun settings as preferred.
3. Use the Playlist Builder to select the file(s) that should play during that scheduled event.

When the Scheduled Playlist starts, the station begins playout for that window.

5) Create Stream Targets for destinations

Create Stream Targets for your destinations:

There is no fixed limit to the number of Stream Targets. Create as many Stream Targets as required, each configured to stream to the any of the supported destinations:

• YouTube
• Twitch
• Facebook
• Icecast
• Custom RTMP for other platforms

1. Select Stream Targets.
2. Select Create a New Stream Target.
3. Set the stream target type and follow the setup fields/integration steps.

Once created the Stream Targets will connect and start streaming when the Scheduled Playlist begins and stop when the Scheduled Playlist ends.

Stream Events captures and stores a comprehensive record of activities across the panel, from live DJ connections, service configuration updates, and automated system actions.

What are Stream Events?

Stream Events is a new real-time event logging system for the Media Control Panel. Every action across the panel and streaming services, from a DJ connecting live to an automated suspension, is now captured, timestamped, and stored in a filterable log accessible to customers for their own services and admins across the entire panel.

Key Features

Event Log Interface

A new Stream Events item has been added to the Media Service side menu, giving you instant access to logs scoped to that service. Administrators also have a global view accessible from the main sidebar, sitting between Email Templates and Announcements.

Filterable Logs

Events can be filtered by category; All Events, Service, Mount, DJ, Source, and AutoDJ as well as by date range making it easy to monitor and find the exact events you are looking for.

What Gets Logged?

Stream Events captures a comprehensive range of activity, including:

• Service events — Start, Stop, Restart, Suspend, Unsuspend  and Remove actions, along with the user or system that triggered them
• Source events — Source Start, Stop, and Restart events
• DJ events — Connect, Disconnect, On Air (takeover), and Kicked events, including the DJ name, source IP, and takeover flag
• AutoDJ events (Liquidsoap & TV Station)— AutoDJ On Air at startup or when a live DJ disconnects and the system resumes control
• Mount point events (Icecast & Icecast KH) — Mount Connect and Mount Disconnect via the mount_add and mount_delete hooks
• Configuration changes — Config Update events whenever service settings are modified
• Song title updates — Logged when a title is manually changed from the service dashboard
• Automated system events — Bitrate abuse warnings, automated suspensions (disk, bandwidth, or reseller transfer limits), and service stops due to account expiry or existing suspension, all recorded under the System actor

Every logged event records the user, DJ, or system responsible for the action.

CSV Export

Looking to share logs or run your own analysis? The Export CSV button lets you download the current filtered view, including service and customer information when used from the global admin panel.

30-Day Retention

To maintain performance logs are automatically retained for 30 days, after which they are cleaned up by the daily maintenance task. This keeps your database lean without sacrificing meaningful historical visibility.

Access & Security

Stream Events respects your existing role hierarchy:

• Administrators have access to all event logs across every service via the global view
• Resellers can view logs for their own servers and their customers’ servers only
• Customers can view logs for their own services only

The Stream Events page also remains accessible even if a service is suspended or expired, so you can always review what happened.

API Access

Stream Events is fully accessible via the MediaCP API:

• Global endpoint: /controller/EventLog
• Service-specific endpoint: /controller/EventLog/{id}

Both endpoints support filtering by event type, service ID, and pagination, and return structured JSON responses including logs, total, page, and totalPages, along with formatted model attributes. Full documentation is available in our Postman API Docs.

If changes are needed it is now possible to edit or delete comments.

Stay Updated

The new notification system provides automatic notifications when:

• Features you voted on change status, so you’ll know when a feature gets selected for development or is completed.
• New comments are posted on features you follow.
• New features are posted in categories you subscribe to.

These will beep you up to date with the progress of the features and categories you are about. Should you want these emails to stop you can unsubscribe anytime with one click on the unsubscribe link.

Sort by Status and Categories

Every request displays its current status to easily track and get an idea on what is planned. Open requests are under consideration, planned requests have been accepted and added to the official software roadmap, completed requests have been added to the panel, and declined requests include an explanation of why we’re not pursuing them.

Request are also categorised by product group and up to three product categories. Each category has a relevant icon and is listed on each request as well as on the sidebar making it quick to look through and identify the areas you care about most.

   • Select Player Code, find the Direct HLS link.
   • Copy the M3U8 link for use in your Roku channel

Step 2: Build Your Roku Channel

Roku has ended support for their popular and easy to setup Roku Direct Publisher channels, so the only option now is to create a custom Roku Channel App. We have made this complex process easy by creating our own sample application as a starting point. This github repository holds the example Roku app that streams an ABR broadcast from MediaCP Cloud Video: Example Stream

Start with our pre-made roku-example app as a template, then customize it match your branding and live stream content. We have created a dedicated guide for customizing the example app, testing, packaging and submitting the channel for review. Please read through this guide for the full detailed setup:

Step 3: Start broadcasting to the Live Channel

Once your Application is published on the Roku App store it is time to go live on your channel and test the live stream. In this guide we use a basic Live Channel, but you can also choose to use a TV Channel to ensure a 24/7 live broadcast: Cloud Video TV Channnels

     1. Download and install OBS Studio from obsproject.com

     2. Start OBS Studio on your computer

     3. Select the Settings button the right of OBS

     4. Select Output and set the Video Bitrate to the recommended Encoding requirements in Encoder Setup:

• Video: 1080p / 720p @ 30 frames per second / Key Frame Interval: 2-4 seconds
• Audio: AAC LC 128 – 256 Kbps 48Khz

     5. Select Stream

     6. Set the Service to “Custom…” 

     7. Input the Server URL and Stream Key found in Encoder Setup

     8. Select Apply and OK

     9. Click on Start Streaming to send your video to the video platform. Once connected, the video platform will shortly change to show the video player with your live broadcast.
