Based in the heart of NSW, Merlot Digital thrives with a local team and a strong passion for keeping businesses and broadcasters connected. Proudly offering internet radio stream hosting, they power community stations, indie DJs, and commercial/charitable/educational broadcasters with reliable streaming through SHOUTcast/Icecast and MediaCP.
Merlot Digital encountered significant obstacles with its previous Canadian-developed internet radio server management platform.
âThe developers behind the software had ceased active development, leaving behind an unstable and unsupported system that became buggy and inconsistent.
â Promises of updates and improvements never materialised, resulting in fundamental functionalities becoming unreliable. This led to increased technical issues, a higher volume of client support queries, and operational inefficiencies, all of which started to bring Merlot Digitalâs reputation for reliability and client satisfaction into question.
Recognising the need for a robust, future-proof solution, Merlot Digital sought an alternative that would not only provide modern features but also offer strong local support. An Australian-developed platform was a key desirable in their search for a stable & reliable alternative, as it means aligned operating hours and supporting the local economy.
Merlot Digital selected Media Control Panel (MediaCP) as its new streaming control panel, and migrated to it in December 2022. The decision was influenced by MediaCPâs Australian roots, ensuring local product development and support, as well as the softwareâs smooth, modern functionality being a major step-up from the previous platform.
MediaCP was unique in offering a stable, user-friendly experience and additional features such as integrated video streaming, providing Merlot Digital with options for future service expansion. The migration process was seamless, and the MediaCP team were proactive and hands-on with support, assisting Merlotâs crew with technical edge cases including SElinux, logrotate configurations and Letâs Encrypt integrations.
The MediaCP development team welcomed feedback and regularly implemented product improvements based on their real-world client needs. This collaborative approach aligned well with Merlot Digitalâs own client-centric ethos and benefits all users of MediaCP.
Using the Addon Module provided by MediaCP, Merlot Digital were able to integrate a stable control & billing link into their client system – introducing the ability for clients to login and self-manage their service, with advanced statistics to understand their online presence. It also provides for immediate service deployment for new clients of Merlot Digital, as well as processing upgrades (ie. to service bitrate) automatically without needing manual work.
The move to Media Control Panel delivered measurable improvements:
