How to Use SRT Destination

When streaming with MediaCP Cloud Video, sending your broadcast to other locations is handled through a set of powerful Publishers covering YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Icecast Server, Custom RTMP, and SRT Destination. Publishers act as exit points for your stream to allow it to be seen on other platforms and locations outside of the standard player and HLS output.

To get started, create a new publisher by selecting the plus button and select SRT Destination. From there you’ll see options for the host, port, latency, and optional encryption. On TV Channels there is the additional option of Live Only which allows you to choose if the publisher should stream uploaded scheduled content or only live encoder connections. Once these have been provided the publisher will start and stop automatically with your broadcast and provide a stable stream to your destination.

Step 1: Set Up Your Live Channel

1. Create a new Live Channel in the MediaCP Cloud Video
   • Login to the MediaCP Cloud Video
   • Navigate to the Live Channels page
   • Create a new Live Channel
2. Obtain the Direct HLS Link
   • Navigate to your MediaCP Cloud Video channel.
   • Select Player Code, find the Direct HLS link.
   • Copy the M3U8 link for use in your Roku channel

Step 2: Build Your Roku Channel

Roku has ended support for their popular and easy to setup Roku Direct Publisher channels, so the only option now is to create a custom Roku Channel App. We have made this complex process easy by creating our own sample application as a starting point. This github repository holds the example Roku app that streams an ABR broadcast from MediaCP Cloud Video: Example Stream

Start with our pre-made roku-example app as a template, then customize it match your branding and live stream content. Step 3: Start broadcasting to the Live Channel

Once your Application is published on the Roku App store it is time to go live on your channel and test the live stream. In this guide we use a basic Live Channel, but you can also choose to use a TV Channel to ensure a 24/7 live broadcast: Cloud Video TV Channnels

     1. Download and install OBS Studio from obsproject.com

     2. Start OBS Studio on your computer

     3. Select the Settings button the right of OBS

     4. Select Output and set the Video Bitrate to the recommended Encoding requirements in Encoder Setup:

• Video: 1080p / 720p @ 30 frames per second / Key Frame Interval: 2-4 seconds
• Audio: AAC LC 128 – 256 Kbps 48Khz

     5. Select Stream

     6. Set the Service to “Custom…” 

     7. Input the Server URL and Stream Key found in Encoder Setup

     8. Select Apply and OK

     9. Click on Start Streaming to send your video to the video platform. Once connected, the video platform will shortly change to show the video player with your live broadcast.

The Automatic Encoding feature will encode customers uploaded media content and recordings to allow for consistent playback. The encoding is configurable to various quality presets but will default to 30 fps and 48 kHz audio, as such our standard recommendation is 48 kHz audio and 30 fps for all encoders as well (OBS/VMix/etc). Automatic Encoding will now be enabled by default for new customer accounts but is also configurable per customer.

Why Setup Automatic Encoding

It is important when streaming on TV Channels that the content matches in formatting to ensure a smooth transition between uploaded and live content. Inconsistency in format can cause problems with the service such as:

• Trouble switching between uploaded and live content
• Disconnects between content
• Audio being out of sync or distorted 
• Content playback stopping

Automatically encoding content avoids these issues without the need for broadcasters to check their content or transcode it manually prior to upload. Allowing for a more streamlined experience for customers and administrators.

How to Enable Automatic Encoding

Automatic encoding is enabled by default for all new customer accounts but is disabled on existing accounts to avoid any conflicts with existing media. Administrators on Premium plans and higher can enable, disable and configure the automatic encoding feature on each customer account from the Customer Management page.

Administrators on Cloud Broadcast plans do not have access to customer management, so automatic encoding cannot be enabled on existing accounts without manual intervention. Automatic Encoding will still be enabled on new accounts created after the 8th of November; you can check if this is enabled if the Encoder Setup shows “Encoding Requirements”.

Enable Automatic Encoding via Customer Management

1. Navigate to the Customers page using the side menu bar
2. Select the three dots and manage on the intended customer
3. Enable Automatic Encoding
4. Set the Quality preset
5. Select Save

Once enabled, all future uploaded and recorded content for the customer will be automatically encoded upon being uploaded/saved. Enabling automatic encoding will not automatically reprocess existing files. If there is a small library of files, then deleting and reuploading files should be suitable. For larger libraries please can reach out to our support team who can reprocess existing files: Open a Support Ticket

The encoding process takes approximately 20 minutes per 1 hour of content. When uploading multiple items, some encoding tasks will run simultaneously.

Customers on Business plans or higher have access to the User Roles feature allowing administrators to define how their customers can use their video platform. Administrators can set the permissions in any combination to limit or allow features for customers with the role. This can be used for anything from stopping customers from being able to delete channels or to completely set the panel to read only.

Why use User Roles?

User Roles allow control over what permissions customers have, this can mean they are restricted from creating new services and players or deleting essential items. Different users have different needs. Roles allow for tailoring the user experience and access levels to fit the specific requirements of each user or group.

Roles also help streamline workflows by ensuring that users have the appropriate permissions to perform their tasks without unnecessary access to other areas. As part of this it is also possible to control who has access to critical functions, reducing the risk of unauthorized changes or accidental deletion.

How to Manage User Roles

To prevent customers from deleting or creating new channels, administrators can create a role that blocks access to that feature and apply it to the relevant customers.

Create a New Role

1. To have access to the User Roles feature the platform must be on a Business or higher plan
2. Select Customers on the side navigation bar
3. Select the User Roles button on the top right
4. Select the + User Roles button to create a new role
5. From here it is possible to enable or disable a plethora of features and access options

Apply Roles to Customers

1. Select Customers on the side navigation bar
2. Select manage on the preferred customer or create a new customer
3. Use the User Role dropdown to select the Default Role or the newly created role(s)

Live Events are a new feature available to our Premium and Business customers. Live Events have been designed to enhance the live streaming experience for both broadcasters and viewers. Utilizing this feature, broadcasters can easily set up one-time or recurring live events that can automatically start, stop, and record channel(s) at scheduled times.

The configuration process is straightforward: simply create a new event in the Live Events section of the Media Control Panel, where you can specify the event’s title, summary, channel(s), and schedule. The channel(s) assigned to the event will then be displayed on a dedicated public page with a countdown to the event’s start.

How to Create Live Events

Before you can use live events, the feature will need to be enabled on your plan. Once enabled there will be a new section titled “Live Events” on the side navigation bar, where you can manage and create new events.To create a new event you can simply select the “Add Event” button and configuring your event in the popup window. You’ll need to provide a title and summary, set up the channels that will be part of the event, and schedule the start and end times.

You can also configure the options for automatic start, stop, and recording features, ensuring that your event runs smoothly and is recorded for later viewing. Additionally, you can customize reminder emails for viewers and find the link to the dedicated public page with a countdown to the event start.

MediaCP Video Panel

Using the MediaCP Video Panel you can setup a Facebook Stream target on Live, TV, and Relay Services.

You can start streaming on Facebook using MediaCP Video Panel by navigating to the Stream Targets section. From here you can create and manage your stream targets. Creating a new Facebooks is as simply as selecting Create New Stream Target then selecting Facebook. You will then be prompted to login to Facebook and accept access. Then you will be able to set the title, description, and location to stream to.

MediaCP Cloud Video

On MediaCP Cloud Video you can setup a Facebook Publisher on Live and TV Channels.

You can start streaming on Facebook using MediaCP Cloud Video by selecting the Plus icon on the Publishing section. From here you can create your new publisher, by selecting Facebook. You’ll then be prompted to Continue With Facebook. Once you have logged into to Facebook you will be able to set the title, description, and location. As well as choose if you want the stream to save as a video on the page/timeline, and if you want the broadcast to stream

Live Streaming directly through a software encoder can be done without MediaCP, but can be more complex and needs to be configured manually. How to start using the new ingest/origin?

We use GeoDNS to automatically map your location to the closest location when connecting from an encoder. This means there are no changes to your encoder settings required and the new location will automatically be used!
