What devices and browsers does the MediaCP Video Player support?
The MediaCP Video Player uses HLS-compatible output with adaptive bitrate streaming, so it works on virtually any modern device and browser, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on desktop, plus iOS and Android on mobile. Viewers can also cast to their TV using Google Cast or Apple AirPlay.
How does adaptive bitrate streaming work?
Adaptive bitrate (ABR) automatically adjusts the video quality in real time based on each viewer's available bandwidth. If a viewer's connection slows down, the player steps down to a lower quality tier to keep playback smooth. When bandwidth improves, it steps back up. This means fewer buffering interruptions for your audience regardless of their connection speed.
Can I use the Video Player for on-demand content as well as live streams?
Yes. The MediaCP Video Player supports both live streaming and video on demand from a single, consistent player. You can stream an event live, then publish the recording for on-demand playback, all in the same player your audience is already familiar with.
What is the Live Stream Paywall integration?
The Video Player includes built-in integration with the MediaCP Live Stream Paywall, letting you gate access to live content behind a payment. Viewers purchase access and receive a secure link, which is then authenticated by the player. You do not need a separate third-party tool to monetise your stream.
What does automatic reconnect do?
If a viewer loses their internet connection during a live stream, the player automatically attempts to reconnect and resume playback once the connection is restored. Combined with rewind support, this ensures your audience can catch up on anything they missed during a brief outage, without needing to manually refresh or rejoin.
Can I show viewer counts to my audience?
Yes. The MediaCP Video Player can display a real-time viewer count directly inside the player interface. This is useful for creating a sense of community and urgency during live events, letting viewers know how many other people are watching alongside them.
How does watermarking work?
You can add a watermark overlay to your stream directly within the MediaCP platform. Watermarking helps protect your content from unauthorised screen recording and redistribution by visibly branding the video. Watermarking is part of the adaptive bitrate and transcoding pipeline. See the ABR documentation for full details.
How do I customise the player's appearance?
You can adjust the primary and background colours to match your brand, set the player aspect ratio, configure the offline message shown when no stream is active, and enable or disable autoplay. These settings are managed directly within your MediaCP account, with no coding required.
