Installing MediaCP on CloudLinux

CloudLinux is not a supported operating system by the Media Control Panel software. While the operating system is very similar to CentOS/RHEL it is different and is often also configured in ways that prevent the MediaCP from installing or operating normally. In addition, we do not test our installation or upgrade process against this operating system and cannot guarantee the stability of the product in an untested and unsupported environment.

Some of these challenges can be overcome, however if you choose to proceed please do note that:

  • We do not recommend installing Media Control Panel on CloudLinux
  • It can be extremely challenging to get working and maintain functionality
  • Our Support Helpdesk may be unable to assist you should an issue arise
  • Interaction with our support helpdesk may be prolonged as our team are not trained on using CloudLinux
  • We will not offer troubleshooting support for installation or upgrade difficulties on unsupported operating systems
  • Due to the challenges above your users may experience greater downtime

Notes for running on CloudLinux:

  • You must exclude the mediacp user account CageFS
  • You may need to allow mediacp user exceptions to run binaries in /etc/cagefs/cagefs.mp including:
    • /usr/bin/opam
    • /usr/bin/gcc
    • /usr/local/mediacp/.opam/opam-init/hooks/sandbox.sh
  • You will need to increase the default resource limits that Cloud Linux imposes on user accounts, specifically memory and IOPS available to the mediacp user account or compilation of some. We recommend setting this much higher than our system requirements (i.e., 8GB memory) to ensure a successful installation.
  • AutoSSL using certbot can fail, for this reason we recommend using a custom SSL Cert. This is more labor intensive, and can cost money. You can find our documentation on how to set this up in our Admin Server Manual here: https://www.mediacp.net/doc/admin-server-manual/install/ssl-certificates/#custom-https-certificate-installation-2 Alternatively we do offer a custom SSL certificate service if you would like our team to complete this for you.
