Live Paywall

Last updated 9 hours ago

Paywalled events are live streams that require payment from viewers before they can be watched. The Live Paywall feature allows monetization of live streams by charging viewers for access to content.

Common Uses include pay-to-access for Concerts, sporting events, webinars, and exclusive broadcasts.

Pricing & Fees

  • A minimum of $5 USD per event is required.
  • Standard PayPal transaction fees apply to each purchase.
  • $1 USD (or equivalent) platform fee is billed per purchase and is collected by MediaCP and invoiced at the end of each month.

Paywall Setup

Paywalls are enabled per channel, and once enabled will require all viewers to register/login and complete purchase before accessing the broadcast. A Live Event will be automatically setup and linked to the Paywall on creation.

How to Create a Paywalled Event

Paywalls are enabled per channel, and once enabled will require all viewers to register/login and complete purchase before accessing the broadcast. A Live Event will be automatically setup and linked to the Paywall on creation.

Events are managed directly within the Channel configuration.

  1. Stop the Channel: The channel must be stopped before the Paywall feature can be toggled.
  2. Access Paywall Tab: Navigate to the Channel configuration and select the Paywall tab.
  3. Enable Paywall: Toggle the Enable Paywall switch to activate the feature.
  4. Create an Event: Click the Add Paywall button to open the event configuration modal.
  5. Configure Event Details:
    • Currency & Price: Select the preferred currency and set a price.
    • Access Duration: Define how long viewers retain access to the live broadcast content (Event Only, 24 Hours, Multi-Day, or Permanent).
    • Title: Provide a descriptive name for the event.
    • Timezone & Schedule: Select the appropriate timezone and set the Start and End date/time for the access window.
  6. Save Changes: Click the Save button to finalize the event setup.

Existing paywall configurations can be modified or deleted from the Paywall tab as needed.

Completed events remain visible in the configuration list for historical records, and cannot be modified or deleted to ensure integrity of historical data.

Tracking Purchases (Revenue Tab)

Monitor earnings and transactions through the Revenue tab:

  • Sandbox vs. Live: Sandbox transactions are highlighted and can be deleted. Live transactions cannot be deleted to maintain accurate financial reporting.
  • Tools:
    • Filtering & Search: Locate specific purchases by date, event, or customer.
    • Export: Transaction history can be downloaded for external accounting.
    • Analytics: View performance trends and sales data.

Managing Users

The Users section allows for the oversight of viewers. Purchase history can be reviewed, account details managed, and support provided for access-related inquiries.

Resetting User Password

A Password reset can be sent to users if access to their account was lost.

  1. Navigate to Paywall -> Users tab as the Account Holder or Team Member
  2. Locate the user by using the search feature
  3. Select the Edit icon next to their account
  4. Under Password Management, click on the “Send Password Reset Link”
  5. The user will receive an email and can click the link to reset their password.
